We Are Not Alone

I hope you are participating in the many online opportunities provided by First Church! I certainly found comfort and reassurance when I attended Sanctuary and then watched our other two worship services this past Sunday. (You can do that now, thanks to our Media Ministries archive that puts every service and sermon online by Sunday evening!)

I cannot begin to count how many times I have recited the Affirmation that begins, “We are not alone; we live in God’s world.” As  I sat in solitude, in front of my laptop live streaming the 11:00 sanctuary service, these words really resonated with me! I found extreme comfort knowing that even though I was alone – I am never alone!

Dr. Bruster was there for me with his inspiring message of hope and revelation that comes from trusting God; Peggy, Robert and Jamye gave me the opportunity to worship through beautiful music; Dr. Mike shared a message that spoke to my inner child, and Rev. Phyllis Barren led me through familiar worship practices that threaded the service together. I was not alone; I was in community with a thousand plus, fellow disciples who have been “called to be the church and to celebrate God’s presence” in a powerful way.

Your intentional giving during this unusual time is making it possible for First Church to continue our ministries in unique ways on Sundays, as well as throughout the week. So again, thank you for giving online or for mailing in your checks!

I ask that you continue this generous giving as you are able.

Together we will weather this storm and come out stronger and wiser. After all, that is we what we have done for the last 90-plus years!

Again, thank you for being part of our church. Please know that the clergy and staff are here for you in many different and specially created ways as we work our way through the uncertainties of this time.

Together we are growing God’s Kingdom!
