We Didn’t Feed Five Thousand but We Had a Much Better Choice of Food. . .

I have to be honest when potlucks were first announced as a Wednesday evening happening last summer by Pastor Lance, I was not as excited as he was. I was recovering from knee surgery which meant I only attended the last one. I will admit I enjoyed the gathering and was impressed by how many households were in attendance.

Earlier this year, the Good Friday service was another potluck opportunity with enthusiastic participation by our members.

The first 2023 summer potluck happened this past Wednesday, with three more scheduled over the next upcoming weeks (7/26, 8/2 and 8/9).

Wesley Hall again overflowed with people and an extravagant variety of delicious foods filled the tables in the hallway. You can never go wrong with Chick-Filet but bless those folks who took time to cook up homemade dishes like a fabulous banana pudding or a knockoff of Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana soup and many other favorites!

And just like the variety of food we also had a variety people in attendance. What a great representation of our congregation: all ages, married and singles, long-time members and others who as Pastor Lance might say are still “kicking the tires” on church. Bravo to those who took the initiative to meet someone new by sitting at a table with strangers or inviting a stranger to join their table.

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of so many, no miracle was needed when it came to providing an abundance of nourishment to be shared.

Following the prayer of thanksgiving and blessing of the food, the love for Christ was shared by simply being together in community.

So now “breaking bread together” through our Wednesday Night Potluck is another way we “do church.”

Come be a part of the next one; you will be blessed!

See you at First Church!

Together in Christ,
