This Is How We Do Church

Last Friday I popped into Rev. Brenda’s office and there was no room to sit. This is nothing on my friend Brenda; in fact, just the opposite. It was a wonderful inconvenience! All of the space was taken up with big heavy boxes of FUMCFW branded fanny packs that were handed out this last weekend at the Cowtown Marathon as well as there were handmade CHEER signs by FUMCFW kiddos that were waved at runners as they passed the FUMCFW volunteer-manned water station.

In thinking about it, there have been just a very few times when I was able to sit down in Pastor Brenda’s office since she arrived here last summer. There is always stuff occupying her chairs because Pastor Brenda is always in the middle of doing God’s work. Work that looks like goodie bags for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness or Christmas presents for Methodist Justice Ministries children or cookie boxes to be filled with holiday goodies for our first responders. Thanks to you, Pastor Brenda’s office is always going to be cluttered.

Several times a week I see a television advertisement highlighting the ministries of a large church in the area. It is uplifting and inviting but I am glad that First Church doesn’t spend funds in this way. Instead, I love that First Church is “advertising” and doing ministry at the same time. Every opportunity I mentioned along with many other activities happening here throughout the year is the best kind of PR!

Pastor Brenda’s ministry of service is part of the 2023 operating budget which means your gifts to the 2023 Ministry Fund are at work making disciples for Christ inside these walls, on a marathon running course and on the streets of Fort Worth.

We may not fill up the church pews every Sunday, but First Church is filling up the hearts of many with the love of Christ every day!

You are part of that and that is how we “do church” here at FUMCFW.

Thank you!
