The women went very early one Sunday morning to the tomb where they knew the body of Jesus was, with the purpose of anointing it with some aromatic spices they had obtained.
Jews traditionally leave their dead in a rock-hewn tomb for a year.
They also said, “Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!” thus proclaiming that Jesus was the king promised to David, who would bring stable and lasting peace to his people.
Hosanna is a Hebrew term, a shout of praise or a prayer of salvation.
The cloak was a personal garment. Most Jews wore it. It had several functions: first of all, it was a coat.
At that time, donkeys were used exclusively for service, while horses were more often used for warfare. Instead of entering the city on horseback, like a military conqueror, Jesus arrives on a donkey to serve.
Jesus needed a colt; he had sent his disciples under very specific instructions.
The word “Lord” comes from the Greek root kyrios and identifies the person with the authority to make decisions.
