Hello everyone!
My name is Carter Shipp, and I’m the new FUMC Youth Ministries Intern! I’ve enjoyed growing up in the church since my family moved here in 2012. From Bible Black Belts to trips to Alamosa, I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve been a part of this congregation. Although I wasn’t baptized here, FUMCFW has made me feel wholly included and led me to see this wonderful place as a second home. This community, filled with unconditional love and acceptance, helped me to discover myself. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing about my time as a youth, and I’m excited to pay forward the warmth that was afforded to me.
My favorite memories from my time as a youth were simply having a safe space to escape from daily life. The Justin has always had a remarkable ability to do so. Whether it be school, sports, or anything else, my stress melted away as I walked through the doors. From Graham to Kat and Matt, the aura of the building was always a beacon of stability to return to. It proved a reliable refuge from the epic highs and lows of high school. In the Justin, friends turned into family, and I’m eternally grateful for my time here. If I could define my biggest goal for my time working here, it would be to sustain and extend my experience to youths who walk through the door just like I did. I entered the Justin with a couple of decent friends and left with a lifelong support system, and any kid from any walk of life deserves that community that I experienced. To be able to provide for that community is both an honor and a privilege.
I’m truly ecstatic about this summer, as a combination of great staff and great youth is a recipe for success. I’m sure many laughs and a few tears are in store, but to play a part in the outstretched arms of the amazing ministry is a responsibility I can’t wait to take. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, and let’s have a great summer!
