9:30 am The Gathering Lyrics

You Say

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up

Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low
Remind me once again just who I am because I need to know
Ooh-oh

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And you say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe
Oh, I believe
What You say of me
I believe

The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity
Ooh-oh

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And you say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe
Oh, I believe
What You say of me
Oh, I believe

Taking all I have, and now I’m laying it at Your feet
You have every failure, God, You have every victory
Ooh-oh

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe
Oh, I believe
What You say of me
I believe

Oh, I believe
Yes, I believe
What You say of me
I believe

Creature

All I know is in sleep
I can taste and feel meek
Life alone makes me shake
If I die before I wake

Every drop that I bleed
Is a gift you give me
Let me spend my skin on you
Kiss me, whisper, make me new

I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love

On the day I come home
I look at you and your throne
Every joy I’ve seen is waste
When I touch your gorgeous face

I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love
I’m a creature for your love

Come As You Are

Come out of sadness
From wherever you’ve been
Come broken-hearted
Let the rescue begin
Come find your mercy
Oh, sinner, come kneel
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal

So lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh, wanderer come home
You’re not too far

So lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are

There’s hope for the hopeless
And all those who’ve strayed
Come sit at the table
Come taste the grace
There’s rest for the weary
Rest that endures
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t cure

So lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh, wanderer come home
You’re not too far

Lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are
Come as you are
And fall in His arms
Come as you are

There’s joy for the morning
Oh, sinner be still
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal

So lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh, wanderer come home
You’re not too far

So lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are

Come as you are
Come as you are
Come as you are

1 Corinthians 12:1-11
(2nd in the series Taking Love Seriously)
Dr. Tim Bruster and Rev. Lance Marshall
Co-Senior Pastors

Welcome
Rev. Lance Marshall, Co-Senior Pastor

Prelude: “In Christ There Is No East or West”
Dale Wood, arranger
Peggy Graff, organist

*Call to Worship
Dr. Zhenya Gurina-Rodriguez, Associate Pastor
One: There are many gifts, talents, and abilities given by God.
All: But there is only one Spirit.
One: There are a variety of things we can do to serve the Lord.
All: But it is the same Lord we all serve.
One: There are many activities we can do to serve God: teach, sing, clean, preach, play, work…
All: But all these are activated by God.
One: There are many manifestations of God’s Spirit in the world.
All: God gives to each as God chooses. Thanks be to God! Amen!

*Hymn 400: “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.

Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’m come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

*Affirmation of Faith 883
We are not alone, we live in God’s world.
We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Gloria Patri 70
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

**Please be seated

Sacrament of Baptism

Parker Ruby Brooks, daughter of Ryan and Brianne Brooks

Baptismal Hymn 191: “Jesus Loves Me” (vs. 1)
Jesus loves me, this I know,
for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong;
they are weak, but he is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Congregational Response
With God’s help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ that Parker Ruby, surrounded by steadfast love, may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.

Faith Like a Child
“Mister Mark” Burrows, Director of Children’s Ministries

*Hymn 420: “Breathe on Me, Breath of God”
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love,
and do what thou wouldst do.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
until my heart is pure,
until with thee I will one will,
to do and to endure.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
till I am wholly thine,
till all this earthly part of me
glows with thy fire divine.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
so shall I never die,
but live with thee the perfect life
of thine eternity.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
God speaks to us through the reading of scripture.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon: “Varieties of Gifts”
Rev. Lance Marshall, Co-Senior Pastor

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)
