This psalm follows the familiar pattern of praising God from one end of the universe to the other (from here to there, from there to here, to borrow from the ideas of Dr. Suess).

Bible stories about Joppa have an interesting thread. In the Old Testament, Jonah caught a ship in Joppa running from God’s mission for him–to preach to the Assyrians, non-Jews, who were admittedly barbaric enemies of his people. In today’s story, Peter is called to Joppa, where Dorcas, a Greek (non-Jewish) follower of Jesus, had died.
