Retirement Announcement: Janice Cooper

We are both saddened and excited to announce that Janice Cooper, our beloved Children’s Ministry Assistant at FUMC Fort Worth, will be retiring after 10 remarkable years of service. Janice has spent all ten of those years working alongside Mark Burrows, enriching the lives of countless children through her dedication and love.

Reflecting on her time here, Janice shared, “My favorite part about working with Mark is his creativity. I love seeing his ideas transform into action, events, and learning for the kids. He has an amazing brain, imagination, and skill, and he utilizes them in such a unique way. I have never met anyone with such talent. I never get bored, and there is rarely a dull moment.”

When asked what she will miss the most, Janice smiled and said, “I really enjoy the children singing—the musicals they’ve done. The sweet faces and lovely voices.”

Janice’s contributions to our church have been immeasurable, but her journey of service is far from over. In retirement, she plans to volunteer in Denton, where she and her husband reside, as part of the Medical Reserve Corps of Denton County. She also looks forward to traveling with her husband, her daughter, and spending more time with her 93-year-old mother in Abilene.

Before joining us, Janice dedicated 33 years to education, serving as superintendent for Lake Worth ISD for 13 years, after working as Curriculum Director.

Though we will miss her dearly, Janice is not leaving us just yet! She will remain with us through VBS 2025, her “last big hurrah,” as she describes it. During this time, she’s committed to ensuring a smooth transition for her successor, saying, “I want to ensure the next person’s success and work to help them in any way I can over the next 9 months. There are lots of moving parts. You have to be flexible in this role. But the church is such a great place to work, and there is no better boss than Mark Burrows!”

Please join us in thanking Janice for her years of dedication and wishing her all the best in her well-deserved retirement!

Would like the opportunity to work with Mark or know someone who would be a good candidate for this job? We’d love to hear from you!
