A garden. A flood. A tower. Long lists of names. Genesis opens with eleven chapters that happen before anything we would call history, and they are stranger than most of us were taught.

Nobody eats an apple. Nobody loses a rib. There are two creation accounts, and they do not agree with each other, and the flood gets told twice by two different hands. None of that is a problem to fix. It is a clue about who was writing, when, and what they needed these stories to do.

We will read slowly and out loud. We will also ask what later readers have laid on top of these chapters, because those readings still shape who gets blamed, who gets welcomed, and who gets to lead.

Geared toward Eleven:Eleven folks who are ready for deep conversation. If you have never cracked open a Bible in your life, you are not behind. Bring your questions.

No homework. Bring a Bible, and if you do not have one, we will put one in your hands.
