Adult Sunday School Classes

Every Sunday morning, groups of adults meet in FUMCFW Sunday School Classes to enhance their spiritual growth and enjoy fellowship with other Christians. We have classes for a variety of demographic groups, with many different class personalities and styles.

If you are interested in participating in any of these classes, please contact:

All Ages

Sunday Book Chat | 9:30 am – 10: 30 am | Room 332
Are you a “book lover” who enjoys conversations with others about what you are reading? In our class, we have lively discussions as we share experiences and insights related to the books we read. Books for reading and discussion by our class are chosen by vote of the class. Class participants need to purchase (or borrow) the class’s chosen book and come prepared to discuss the chapter or sections for that particular Sunday. Class participation can be a short-term commitment (for a particular book) or an ongoing commitment as a class member. We welcome visitors who want to try this style of study.

Wesley Bible Study | 9:30 am | Room 340-341
The Wesley Bible Study Class is a weekly in-depth Bible study for life-long learners of all ages and focuses on the study of Scripture to enhance understanding of the Word of God from a spiritual and contextual standpoint. Most Sundays the class is led by a candidate for the ordained ministry, Hanna Newcomer Sliva. The Class also hosts a monthly luncheon at a variety of local restaurants in the Metroplex, typically during the third Friday of the month. All are welcome!

Young and Middle Adults

Gathered | 10:45 am | Room 320
A discussion-based class for those looking to connect with fellow Gathering friends.  Come meet new people and explore the scriptures and sermon themes through a different lens.

Aldersgate | 9:30 am | Room 333
We are a group of 40 and 50+ year olds, with a wide range of worldly experiences. Most of us have children whose ages range from teens to adults. Our class thoroughly enjoys a healthy and respectful discussion. Topics usually involve current events and how we can apply biblical messages in those situations. We also occasionally host guest speakers, and we typically enjoy an off-site fellowship gathering once a month.

Genesis | 9:30 am | Room 351
Our class is primarily made up of late 40+ couples and singles, most with elementary-aged children or youth. Topics range from biblical studies to issues related to families to social concerns. We have some fun gatherings planned through the year.

Open Door | 9:30 am | Room 320
Are you in your Dad Joke Era? If so, come join our discussion-based class! Open Door is a community of couples and singles, most with children ranging in age from newborn to 16. We have a joint mission to bring our families together in a faith-centered community to Love God, Serve People, and Transform Lives. We have frequent opportunities for service projects and socials (some with our children joining in). Come join us as we share our lives with one another and seek to raise disciples together. We meet on Sunday mornings. Social starts at 9:30 and the lesson begins at 9:45.

Middle and Older Adults

Inquirers | 9:30 am | Room 230 | Not meeting during May and June
Our weekly conversations range in topics from biblical studies to social concerns. We invite presenters from the leadership of our church and wider community. We put a lot of emphasis on supporting church outreach programs. Our calendar includes social occasions, monthly dinners and monthly Ladies Coffee.

Loyalty | 9:30 am | Room 334
Our class is made up of mature adults, some of the longest participating members of our church. We invite engaging speakers from church members, community speakers, and service agencies. We do enjoy gatherings for food and fellowship including monthly birthday dinners and a Christmas Party.

Rooted | 10:45 am | Room 336
Adult class ranging in ages from 55 and up. Couples and singles are welcome. The class goal is to become rooted in the Bible, through bible study by book, topic, and theme. The class encourages lively discussion and differences of opinion. There are several social and charity support opportunities during the year.

Good Neighbors/Koinonia | 9:30 am | Room 231
Our name describes who we try to be. Good Neighbors Class, now with members from the Koinonia Class, we strive to care about the world and to serve others. With a variety of teachers, we love lively discussions about social issues, community concerns, current events, the United Methodist Church and the Bible. It’s an active group that likes to learn, think and express sometimes strong opinions. Our class, comprised of both singles and married couples, also enjoys social events such as museum tours, Rangers games and our annual Christmas party and auction. Service is at our core, whether it’s bringing a casserole to church members, providing Christmas for a needy family or making 300 sandwiches at a time for the night shelter. We love to welcome visitors, too!

First Talks | 9:30 am | Room 310 & Zoom
Schubert M. Ogden, a prominent theologian and former dean of the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, said, “All knowledge is, in effect, theological knowledge relevant to faith.” Inspired by this idea, First Talks is a discussion group that meets weekly to explore TED Talks. The diverse opinions and experiences within the group lead to lively and meaningful conversations on timely issues.
