You’ve Got Mail

This past Monday was another one of my favorite days here at the church — the first day of Vacation Bible School! The year’s theme is To Mars and Beyond.

I think the best way to describe this week is that it’s like our Fall or Spring Children’s Academy — on steroids. Close to 600 children showed up that first morning, and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, it was a successful blast-off for what will be an “out of this world” week. For those of us who don’t have VBS-age children, we can experience a small part of this fun at the 11:00 am Sanctuary Service this Sunday. Be prepared to be “over-the-moon” impressed with our youngest disciples in training!

I hope your heart is smiling right now because it is your generosity and giving to our 2019 budget that makes it possible for FUMCFW to share God’s love with our children and youth through Vacation Bible School, other life-impacting activities, including Summer Jam, Youth Mission Trip, Youth Choir Trip (all of which took place in June), and of course, still upcoming is the youth trip to Camp Barnabas.

Not to be outdone by our youth, forty of our older adults recently enjoyed fellowship and God’s natural beauty when they traveled to Palo Duro Canyon to take in the musical production “Texas” with a stop along the way to enjoy the Stations of the Cross just off Interstate 40. Another ten First Church disciples traveled to Costa Rica this week to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in the the 13th year of this life-changing ministry.

These are just a few of the many wonderful ways that we gather here at First Church in God’s name — and just a few of the many wonderful ways God’s work is getting done. We are truly grateful for your consistent and intentional financial support of these ministries, especially during these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

This week many of you received your second quarter 2019 contribution statement via email from our Business Office. Others of you, per your request, will be receiving it in the mail. Should you have any questions or comments regarding your statement, please contact our Business Office (

To give you a brief update on our financial status here at mid-year, the Finance Committee is overseeing an approved operating budget of $5,080,054 with the goal that our members will raise 78% of that amount through our tithes and gifts. I am excited to report that to date, we have reached approximately 50% of that goal! I celebrate and appreciate you and your generosity.

Again, thank you for making First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth a community of faithful disciples who are sharing their many gifts in the name of Christ Jesus.

Together in Discipleship,

Nancy Fisher
Director of Stewardship
