Wrapping Up a Summer

Wrapping Up a Summer_HSAs Summer ’17 begins to wind its way into fall, and you begin to wind up your own summer travels and vacation time, it’s time now to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our FUMCFW summer. And, if you are lucky enough to be able to squeeze in one last jaunt before or around Labor Day, please remember that as long as you have a smartphone or tablet, you can bring the peace, reassurance, and love of your FUMCFW faith community right along with you — wherever you go — without packing another thing!

With a few clicks on your smart phone or tablet, you can enjoy live stream on Sunday mornings or catch up on sermons and services you may have missed on our FUMCFW YouTube channel or Podcasts! (go to fumcfw.org to find these buttons on the home page) And remember, you can always offer the kids (and yourself!) a healthy break from playing games on their devices to enjoy and sing along with Mister Mark via our Children First playlist.

As you know, summer around FUMCFW is about the farthest thing from rest or vacation for our ministries and staff as we take our message of love beyond our walls and local community to other parts of our nation and our world. Here are just a few highlights to fill your heart with gratitude for all that we are and all that we do:

  • JUNE was very busy for our youth, starting off with 33 youth participating in the Middle School Mission Blitz and shared God’s love with our homeless and less fortunate. The High School Mission Trip took 27 youth to New Orleans, and the Cornerstone Youth Choir Tour made up of 16 youth traveled to Colorado Springs. As our youth shared messages of hope and love through hard work and beautiful music, 100 elementary-school-age children came together for Summer Jam to worship God through joyful music and song.
  • JULY gave 22 youth a life-changing experience as they volunteered their hearts and their time at Camp Barnabas, an amazing camp for youth who live with severe disabilities. And our largest mission team ever traveled to Costa Rica, including our very first medical mission team, to minister and heal in the Puerto Viejo community. Meanwhile, here at home 600 children, ranging in age from 3 to 11 years spend a week within our walls for Vacation Bible School, and our eleven:eleven Band performed an impromptu concert (and meal) at True Worth Homeless Resource Center.
  • AUGUST showed a slow down in travel and special activities for children and youth; however, our church was still brimming with a full slate of ongoing opportunities and activities geared to support our congregation’s faith development from worship to studies to service and fellowship opportunities and more, even as plans continue to develop for the coming seasons of Fall and Advent. And, with Choral Union and Adoramus back in the choir loft, we’re all looking forward to this year’s Gift of Music Concert Series, which promises even more uplifting events that are putting First Church on the map as a go-to venue for choral and other music performances.

It is because of your generosity that our church’s vital ministries and programs don’t ever have to take a break. And, by staying current on your annual commitment and continuing to offer additional gifts whenever you feel moved to do so, you empower these programs and more to fuel our mission to Love God, Serve People and Transform Lives. And, just as our website makes it so easy to stay connected with our church when you’re on the road, we have also made it easy for you to continue your support with multiple easy giving options (see sidebar for details!).

Thank you, again, for all you do as part of our First Church faith community. If you have questions about giving options, or how you can support our church to meet the GIVE requirements of your Healthy Plate Discipleship, please contact Nancy Fisher, Director of Stewardship, at nfisher@myfumc.org or give her a call at 817-339-5098.
