“Would Jesus have us stop for a moment to consider the extreme darkness around us — and our calling to care for children?”

Disciple Church and FUMC Family:

Yesterday, I was on court for a case in which a 4 year old boy had tested positive for methamphetamine. Think about that. One of his parents habitually smoked meth in the room where the child slept, and the child had inhaled it over a long period. We and our members are so affluent and so blessed. So are our children and our youth. So would Jesus have us stop for a moment to consider the extreme darkness around us , and our calling to care for children beyond our membership families? In 2009, 39% –almost one in four–of the children below the age of 5 living in Fort Worth were in families whose incomes were below the federal poverty line. I can tell you that after 7 and ½ years of this ministry, things are getting worse, not better.

Your brother,

Brooks.
