Jesus Calms the Storms
Fifth in the series: “Tales of the Sea”
Dr. Tim Bruster
This Sunday we’ll continue our “Tales of the Sea” worship series with another story that actually takes place on the Sea of Galilee. Literally.
Even though the Sea of Galilee is small (64.4 square miles at its fullest — about twice the size of Possum Kingdom Lake and less than half the size of Lake Texoma), sometimes, because of the way it’s situated, storms coming in from a certain direction could quickly whip the lake into dangerously high waves.
That’s what happened on this particular day with the Disciples. They were caught in one such storm, and as they were tossed about, the boat began taking on water. They were terrified. Read more.
Robert Stovall gives a quick preview of the music offering for this Sunday.

Parent Meeting this Sunday!
Its back-to-school season friends! As our youth head back to school, we over at the Justin are kicking back into our normal school year schedule, and we’ll start that off like we always do, with a parent meeting. This is going to be a big one! We’ll be introducing our theme for the year, revealing the renovation of the 3rd floor of the Justin, talking about some upcoming changes in the youth ministry, and announcing important dates through July 2018! Stringing Pearls in Ireland and Charlottesville
Rev. Tom McDermott
We had no idea. Three days before the tragedies of Charlottesville, I stood on the Walls of Derry (Londonderry to the British) with the other 29 members of our group in Northern Ireland. We looked out over the turrets to the South where the rebuilt homes of the mostly Catholic Irish live — the Bogside. Prior to the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, these neighborhoods were mostly impoverished and squalid tenant complexes. Read more.
Adjourning the Counsels of Despair
I’ve felt discouraged this week as we’ve lived in the shadow of another episode of hatred, power mongering, racism, and violence. Charlottesville is one more page in the long history of human discord. On top of the tragedy of lost life has been the wrangling over words — how should we speak, what is the best way to stand and be counted, and does anything we say or do really matter? Read more.
