John Howard751A Big First Church Welcome to Our New Executive Director

Longtime church member and lay leader John Howard will become Executive Director of the FUMCFW staff starting September 1. The search for an Executive Director to manage the day-to-day operations of our church staff took an unexpected turn during a breakfast meeting between our then Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) Chair John Howard and Senior Pastor Dr. Tim Bruster. Lance Marshall752Lance’s Commissioning

Congratulations to Rev. Lance Marshall who was commissioned during this week’s CTCUMC Annual Conference. This commissioning follows Lance’s recent graduation (top of his class!) from TCU Brite Divinity School and marks the official beginning of his road to ordination. Read more.

Hearing Icon 75New FUMCFW Hearing Devices are In!

Our new hearing devices are now available for checkout in the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings. If you are hearing impaired, you can use this device with your own earbuds, our over-ear headphones, or if you have a telecoil (T-Coil) system it will wirelessly connect with your own personal hearing device. If you experience any difficulties upon first-time use of our new hearing devices, please check with your audiologist to make sure your device is loop compatible. If you have questions or need assistance, contact Austin Patton (apatton@myfumc.org).

Jennifer Stephens751Congrats, Jennifer!

Congratulations to Jennifer Stephens who received the Harry Denman Laity Evangelism Award from the Central Texas Conference at our 2017 Annual Conference this past week. This award is given to recognize those whose lives exemplify the Great Commission through word and deed in their ministry of evangelism and passionate commitment to introducing others to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Rhonda Gaber75Welcome Back, Rhonda

We are beyond excited to announce that Rhonda Gaber has rejoined our staff as Dr. Tim Bruster’s Executive Assistant. To help Rhonda get up to speed on this pivotal role on our staff, Pam Erlandson also made a special reappearance this week to help smoothe Rhonda’s transition to her new responsibilities. Met with a balloon bouquet, welcome sign, and giddy staffers, Rhonda says, “Words cannot express how thrilled I am to be back home.” Read more.

Alexei Sultanov Tribute Concert17_SQFor Alexei: Always Loved, Never Lost

When their love was in full bloom just like the lilacs back in Moscow, Dace and Alexei Sultanov would run barefoot through the rain together. They had been two peas in a pod since sweet sixteen. Their joint mantra was “Be Inspired and Inspire Others,” and they lived beyond the brim of life. Both were world-class musicians — Dace with her cello and Alexei with his piano. Read more.

robert-stovall752Father’s Day!

Robert Stovall

As we spin forward into the glorious weeks of summer, one of the best holidays during this time of year for many is, of course, FATHER’S DAY. It’s a day we choose to honor our fathers in a way that can be truly meaningful. Perhaps we celebrate the lives of our fathers who have passed on as well as our current fathers both young and old. mark75VBS is Nearly FULL

Mark Burrows

A week has passed since our Early Bird Deadline. We still have 3 1/2 weeks left for registration. But . . . Things are filling up. Our 3s classes are completely full and we have a wait list. 4s are almost full. The other grades are getting close as well. Read more.

Tom75What’s Good About the Good Samaritan?

Rev. Tom McDermott

I shared this story several years ago, but it seems just as pertinent today. The 10-year-old boy is beside his mother at the museum, waiting for the performance to begin, though clearly not too concerned with what is about to transpire. He’s buried in a large, hard-bound book — a fantasy novel from the looks of the cover, the latest incarnation of Tolkien or MacDonald or Rowling. Read more.

Len751What Are Your Sacred Stories?

Dr. Len Delony

It’s been over a month since I last wrote here about “Sacred Stories and the Efficiency of the Holy Spirit.” I’ve continued to follow that theme throughout this month as I’ve heard many sacred stories (especially in my recent part-time work as a hospice chaplain). Read more.
