The Lord Really Has Risen
Rev. Casey Orr
Luke 24:13-35
While it was only two weeks ago, Easter might already seem a distant memory to some of us. The joyful bigness of the day has faded back into the mundane routine of work and school and chores and responsibility. Things are “back to normal” as they say.
But this coming Sunday, we are going to travel with disciples who did not yet know or understand the freedom of Easter. While it was still the third day, the day that Jesus’ tomb had been found empty by the women and later confirmed empty by Peter, they simply didn’t get it. It was too unreal, too unclear, too impossible to believe. Read more.
Robert Stovall gives a quick preview of the music offering for this Sunday.
FEATURES
Learn a Thing or (Fifty-)Two from Dr. Lamar Smith
If you already know FUMCFW’s own Dr. Lamar Smith, then you already know how much wisdom and insight he has to offer us all (among many other attributes, like his cheerful demeanor and abundant humor). Day by day, he graces the halls of First Church with his charm and wit, sharing tidbits of life lessons that only age and understanding can teach. Read more.
Our Fit First Church
We talk a lot about spiritual health in church life. We worship, learn, and pray continually to grow in mind and spirit. Important as that is, there’s another piece of the puzzle we can’t do without. We also need to be physically fit to truly be the picture of good health — in mind, body, and spirit. Read more.

When Holidays Hurt: Mother’s Day
Rev. Casey Orr
I used to have no problem with Mother’s Day. It was a day on which my family was sure to go to church, have a nice lunch, write a loving card to Mom, and do chores with more haste than usual. I heard all of the complaints about the greeting card companies and florists being the primary profiters (and even inventors?) of this holiday for Moms. But that griping simply didn’t get to me. Do You Consider Yourself a Theologian?
Rev. Page Hines
You may not think of yourself as one, but I bet you are a theologian! If you have ever thought much about God, been curious about faith, or tried to understand the whole God thing — then you probably are a theologian. Theology is basically trying to wrap our heads, our hearts, and our hands around what we think and believe about God. Read more.
Prescription for a Healthier, Happier Life: Generosity
Nancy Fisher
Even though I have been in the “fundraising” business for many years, this new gig is excitingly different, so I have been searching church websites for possible mentors. Two of my new friends have basically the same job description as mine, but their job titles reflect a current trend of using the word “generosity” in place of stewardship and giving. Read more.
Riding the Wave
Mark Burrows
They say that the Sunday after Easter marks the beginning of “Church Summer.” But you’d never know that based on last Sunday in the Children’s Wing.
It was great to have so much energy: Read more.
