The Gift of Easter

Dr. Tim Bruster

Matthew 28:1-10, 16-20

“ . . . and it was night.”

As the season of Lent winds into its final days, I reflect back on the time we’ve spent in the Dark Wood with our Lenten studies of Eric Elnes’ book, “Gifts of the Dark Wood.” We’ve traveled this landscape in search and consideration of The Gift of UncertaintyThe Gift of EmptinessThe Gift of Feeling LostThe Gift of TemptationThe Gift of Being Awe-struck, and The Gift of Community.

The Dark Wood, of course, is an experience everyone has at one time or another — we all spend some time there during the course of our lives. And now we understand that when we know where to look, there are gifts to be found in these dark times. Read more.

Robert Stovall gives a quick preview of the music offering for this Sunday.

Nancy Fisher75“Going the Extra Mile” Easter Offering

Nancy Fisher

I love the way that FUMCFW includes our youngest members in our Holy Week activities. The Family Maundy Thursday and the Family Good Friday meals and services are beautiful, thoughtful ways of sharing with our children the last days of Jesus. Read more.

mark75They Don’t Call It “Holy Week” for Nothing

Mark Burrows

Hi Families,

This is a BIG week in the life of our church. April 13 — Family Maundy Thursday Service (dinner at 5:30 pm in Room 350, Communion service from 6:15 – 7:00 pm in the Chapel) Why you should make the effort to come as a family: Read more.

Lance Marshall752Palm Sunday Takeaway

Rev. Lance Marshall

Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred portion of the Christian calendar and the culmination of Jesus’ earthly life and ministry. Before this scene, Jesus taught and worked outside the main metropolis of Jerusalem. He enters Jerusalem now at the height of his “fame” and reputation as a Jewish leader, which strongly influences the reception he receives. Read more.

Nancy-Froman75Youth Volunteers at the Mission

Rev. Nancy Froman

Sunday night a week ago, our own FUMCFW Youth Group came over to First Street Methodist Mission for a mission project. Andrew and Kat are great in wanting our teenage students to be familiar with the Mission and have the chance to contribute to the teamwork that it takes to keep all of our ministries going. Read more.

Andrew75Seeing God’s Story in All Stories

Andrew Mochrie

Imagine a teenager who has the ability and desire to seek God’s story in all aspects of life. They find God in the music they listen to, even when it isn’t “Christian” music. They find God in their reading assignments from school. They find God in the movie they just saw on Netflix. Read more.
