“What’s Ahead?”

Dr. Tim Bruster

Romans 12:1-2, Hebrews 12:1-2a

Which way is forward? Throughout scripture, it seems like everybody’s always on the move — going from one place to another, on a journey from where they are to where they need to be. We see this movement when Abraham and Sarah leave their home to go to a land that God has promised them. We see it when Moses leads the people out of slavery in Egypt and through the wanderings in the wilderness with the goal of the Promised Land. Read more.

Women in Faith17_SQLet’s Talk About Women — and Faith

Last fall FUMCFW hosted “Pathway to Peace,” an interfaith symposium that brought together speakers and members of three major faith communities to talk about similarities, differences, and a way forward together. “It was a very real and hopeful example that we all can come to know God more fully as we nurture relationships of trust and respect for one another, and share in our common, faithful thread of compassion,” recalls Dr. Len Delony, who helped organize the event along with Rev. Chuck Graff, who led this bold initiative. Read more.

mark75Thank You for You and Your Babies

Mark Burrows

I didn’t want to let any more time slip by before I told you how much you and your dear babies mean to our church! And I feel incredibly honored that you have chosen us as the community to walk along with you on your child’s journey of faith. We do not take that honor or responsibility lightly. If there is ever anything we can do for you, please let us know. Read more.

kat-bair75Peter and Servant Leadership

Kat Bair

Peter always has been my favorite disciple. He was the first character in the Bible who, for me, walked and lived and breathed. In his impulsiveness, his temper, his earnest desire to follow Jesus, so frequently derailed by his undeniable humanness, there seemed to be a person I knew, a voice that sounded a familiar. Chuck752“Women in Faith” Symposium

Rev. Chuck Graff

I would like to personally invite you to attend our second Interfaith Symposium on Sunday, February 12. This is an opportunity for us to meet together and support one another within our faith traditions — and especially at this symposium — to learn more about how women have been understood and treated. Read more.

Sid75Reflect on the Past; Look Forward to the Future

Sid Johnston

I’ve heard several people comment over the change of the new year that 2016 was a difficult year. Is it a possibility that a year can be bad or good for so many people? Or is it a possibility that any given year can be full of ups and downs for any number of people with it just being a mere coincidence? Read more.

Finding a Way in this Mess

Rev. Tom McDermott

Theologian and author Frederick Buechner once said, “When I hear myself talk about my life, it sounds so purposeful and planned. In truth, my life has been more like a dog moving from fire hydrant to fire hydrant. But, looking back, there seems to be some kind of an invisible thread connecting it all.” Read more.

Len751Can the Heart of Democracy be Healed?

Dr. Len Delony

A movement has been emerging around the world. Many who have not felt heard are insisting on being respected and taken seriously. Amen to that! I’m concerned that what we are witnessing, however, on a national and international level, is largely a reaction to fear and anger. Any sense of “sacred trust” keeps breaking down to lower levels of desecration. Read more.
