Hello everybody, my name is Lane Davis and I’m the new middle school program coordinator in the FUMC Forth Worth Youth Ministry. I’ve only been here a few weeks but I’ve already had so much fun and felt so welcomed here at FUMC Forth Worth. Revolution Weekend was amazing and I’ve been so impressed with the way everybody here respects, loves, and cares for each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.
I’ve met many of you already and hope I’ll get the chance to meet many more of you in the weeks to come, but today I wanted to let you know a little bit more about myself:
When I’m not hanging with students and parents at the Justin, you’ll usually find me at one of the libraries at SMU where I’m a full-time student working on my Ph.D. in Church history. One of my favorite things to do in the world is learning and teaching and it’s something I hope we’ll get to do a lot of together in the middle school ministry (though I promise I won’t bore you with random history stories!).
I also just got married at the end of 2018. My wife, Elissa, was born and raised here in Fort Worth and she’s doing her best to make sure I root for TCU football this fall.
Those are some important big facts about me, but what I really want you to know is how much I love and care for the church. I grew up in the church. My dad was a Methodist pastor and so I’ve literally been coming to church almost every Sunday since I was two weeks old! But the reason I love and care for the church isn’t simply because I’ve been coming forever.
The reason that I love the church is that the church is a place where I can belong. It’s a place that I know will welcome me with grace even when I’ve screwed up. It’s a place where I can bring my doubts and frustrations and questions and there will be people there that will listen and love me. It’s a place where I can find encouragement in the midst of my discouragement; peace in the midst of my chaos; joy in the middle of sorrow; and hope even in all my doubt. It’s a place where I can love others and love Jesus, knowing all the while that I’m loved just as I am.
The reason that I’m so excited to be here at FUMC Fort Worth is because I want to help make sure that the church that loves me is a place where you can feel and experience that love too. I think the church is the most important place you will ever go. It’s the most important organization you will ever join. It’s the best community you will ever invest in. It’s the best adventure you’ll ever give your life too. I’m so excited to be on this journey with you all and can’t wait to see what God has in store for each of us.
