We Are Back From Barnabas!

We are back from Camp Barnabas! Over the last week, our youth served at Camp Barnabas in Purdy, Missouri. We had barnstormers, missionaries and cabin parents and everyone did a wonderful job at the tasks they were given. There was lots of laughter, dancing and karaoke this week and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We wanted to give a big thank you to the congregation members of The Gathering for packing Barnabas boxes and writing notes to our youth and adult participants, they were a huge hit and helped our participants and their campers get through the week. The bubbles and bracelet-making kit were a big hit in my cabin particularly!

Camp Barnabas is always a trip that a lot of youth look forward to every year and is a very rewarding trip to attend, it is really meaningful to be able to create a relationship with a totally new person in a matter of days and be able to give them the best week of their life whether that be sitting making bracelets all week, swimming in the lake all week, or shooting tennis balls out of a cannon all week. Every year at Camp Barnabas looks different and this one was definitely one to remember. We had a camper that just wanted to listen to One Direction all day, Louis Tomlinson specifically, we had a camper who spent all of his week turning rocks into dragon eggs then into dragons (thanks to a dinosaur stress ball in one of our care packages, it was a big success), we even had a shaving cream water slide party that ended with fireworks! What we love about Camp Barnabas is their ability to allow their campers to do exactly what they are wanting to do, even if it may not specifically be the normal camp activities, like turning rocks into dragon eggs, the campers had a great week and that is all that matters at the end of the day.

Every year we attend we have new stories to tell we look forward to next year’s trip and the new stories and memories we will have to share. Thank you again to everyone who wrote notes and sent care packages, we really would not make it through the week without those pick-me-ups!
