VBS 2014 Mission Focus: Kenyan Orphan Endeavor

African Orphan EndeavorThese are the children that are part of our African Orphan Endeavor and the Music Academy that Mark established in 2009. Many of these children have lost one of their parents and many more of them have lost both parents to the AIDS epidemic. As sad as that is, their joy in receiving the simplest things is amazing and inspirational. Our church is sponsoring their education by providing them with school uniforms and tuition for the older students. In August, we will send another team to Kianjai village in Meru, Kenya and they will take the school supplies we collect during Vacation Bible School with them.  Because of the AIDS epidemic in Africa, thousands of children have been orphaned. In Kianjai, extended family and “well wishers” have taken children in and are doing their best to provide bare essentials.  Here’s how you and your family can become Well Wishers:

Each day during VBS, we will operate a Kid to Kid Mission Store that will sell the following school supplies for $1.00 or an entire packet can be assembled for $5.00:

Day 1 – colored pencils and crayons

Day 2 – pens, pencils and erasers

Day 3 – composition notebooks

Day 4 – toothpaste and toothbrush

Day 5 – prayer bracelets

If your family is interested in doing more, a $25 will provide a new uniform for one of the children.  Checks can be made payable to “FUMC” with “African Orphan Endeavor – VBS” in the memo line.  For K – 6th Grade, please bring items/checks to Assembly.  For 3’s and Pre-K please turn in your donations to teachers.

Bwana Asifiwe! (Praise the Lord!)
