Week of October 22 — Unbounded Generosity Leads to Abundant Life
Scripture: Matthew 14:13-21
He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves of bread and the two fish, looked up to heaven, blessed them and broke the loaves apart and gave them to his disciples. Then the disciples gave them to the crowds. Everyone ate until they were full, and they filled twelve baskets with the leftovers. About five thousand men plus women and children had eaten. (Matthew 14:19-21)
How effortless, without even pausing, Jesus acted. He knew what needed to be done; He had the resources to do it — thanks to a small boy — and He did it. With a simple loving gesture of blessing the loaves and fishes, all who were there had their needs met. Just as the baskets overflowed with the evening meal, so did God’s love overflow for his Son and the 5,000+ disciples.
