Hello Church Family,
Mister Mark here.
I’m a fairly optimistic guy. I know what it’s like to put a ridiculous goal out there and try to make it happen.
But when our VBS Chair, Tammy Frazier, told me in January, “Let’s plan for five hundred children at Vacation Bible School,” even I thought that was a bit on the high side.
Well, as has so often been the case, Tammy was right. We had 538 children attend VBS this year! I am simply blown away.
Our theme this year was Workshop Of Wonders, aka W.O.W. And our scripture for the week was Psalm 77:14 — You are the Lord who works wonders.
This may have been the single easiest scripture to see in action in the history of VBS. Wonders were everywhere:
The wonder of children sitting in rapt attention as youth acted out a Bible story.
The wonder of hundreds of children packed into Wesley Hall, singing about God’s extraordinary love.
The wonder of children making prayer flags for friends far away.
The wonder of families stopping by the Mission Store each day to buy school supplies for orphans in Kenya.
The wonder of a lone child walking hesitantly into class, then beaming when a new friend calls her by name.
Our children are the world’s wonder-bearers. It’s up to us to make sure they hold onto that wonder for as long as possible. Because, let’s face it, the world could use some more wonder in it.
Thank you to those who have given of themselves for the sake of our church and our children.
Thank you to:
The VBS Design Team. Your outstanding leadership set everyone up to succeed.
The over one hundred adult volunteers. Whether you were in a classroom or not, you taught our children, and taught them well!
The seventy five youth volunteers. Anyone who saw you in action this week would never doubt that young people can do amazing, powerful things.
Our church staff. No job was too dirty. No costume was too silly. Thank you for demonstrating that a children’s event like this really is a church-wide event.
This amazing church. Your prayers, your love, and your support mean so much.
Here’s to many more summers filled with wonder!
