Stumped on the Meaning of “A Goostree Lecture Series?”

By September 22, 2016Welcoming Ministries

Lisa HelmWhen I first heard we were having a Goostree Lecture Series this fall, I’ll have to admit that I wasn’t sure exactly what that meant. But now that I know (and I’m about to share) what this means, I couldn’t be more excited that THIS SUNDAY we will be welcoming Dr. James Fleming, a world-renowned Biblical scholar and lecturer, back to our pulpit and then to lead our Fall 2016 Goostree Lecture Series.

Dr. Fleming lived and worked as an archaeologist and educator in Israel from 1974 to 2006, where he taught classes in the School for Overseas Students at Hebrew University and the Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem. I’m really looking forward to — and hope to see you there — when Dr. Fleming delivers his very timely lecture series, “Seeing God through the Biblical Mind.”

At the special invitation of our Adult Education Council, I hope you will attend all or as many of Dr. Fleming’s six sessions as possible. “Everyone will be fascinated by the new Biblical insights they receive from Dr. James Fleming on archaeology, history, geography, theology, and the current Middle East situation,” says Rev. Chuck Graff.

This wonderful opportunity comes to our church from the generosity of a special designated gift made to the First Methodist Church Foundation years ago by the Goostree family to bring acclaimed speakers and theologians to our church at no charge to attendees. Therefore, all of Dr. Fleming’s lectures are free to attend in Wesley Hall, and at the noon and evening lectures light meals and/or desserts will be available for a small $6 donation. Click here for more information, contact Rev. Chuck Graff (cgraff@myfumc.org) at 817-339-5065.

See you Sunday,

Lisa Helm
