A Human Prayer
Everything we’re doing to keep people healthy and safe right now is very important. Staying close to home, washing our hands, wearing masks in public – these are ways we can be kind to others. And yet…we miss the physical human connection right now – hugs, high fives, and the energy of simply being in the same room with others.
We’re spending so much time in virtual classes, virtual meetings, virtual rehearsals, that it’s vital for us to take some time, every once in a while, to remind ourselves that we are not virtual. We are real!
Take in a slow calming breath.
That breath is real. You are real.
Repeat after me each of these lines from Job 33:4 –
The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Now hold out your hands in front of you.
Those hands can do amazing things in God’s world.
Those hands are real. You are real.
Repeat after me each of these lines from Psalm 134:2 –
Lift up your hands to the sanctuary
and praise the Lord.
Now take one a hand and place it on your heart.
That is a strong heart, a loving heart.
That heartbeat is real. You are real.
Repeat after me these words from Psalm 57:7 –
My heart is steady, O God.
Remember, you are a child of God. God made you and has a very real purpose for you.
Repeat after me.
I am human.
I am a child of God.
I am real.
