Driftwood

Hand your child the piece of driftwood.

Note: These are the long smooth pieces of wood, not to be confused with the wood discs.

Say:

Hold the driftwood.
Notice how smooth it is.
Like the sea glass, the sea takes pieces of wood and works off the rough edges.

Every part of nature praises God by being its best self. A tree doesn’t try to be a bird.
A bird doesn’t try to be an acorn. They each honor God by being what God created them to be.
Each of us can honor God by being our best selves.

Listen to these words from the prophet Isaiah –

You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.

Now let’s sit in silence. Hold the driftwood in your hand and think of something that makes you special…that makes you you.

[After a few moments of silence, pray]

Prayer:

Loving God,
We celebrate you,
And we honor you,
By being our best selves.
Amen.

[The driftwood can now go in the box.]
