Pinecone

Hand each child a small pinecone

Say:

Hold the pinecone gently in your hand.
Look at it from different angles. From the top it almost looks like a little wooden flower.

The pinecone isn’t a seed but is an organ that contains the seeds.
Some pinecones are prickly and others are not.

Listen to these words from Genesis when God created the plants and trees.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

And the evening and the morning were the third day.

Now let’s sit in silence. Hold your pinecone gently and imagine all the good God sees in you.

[After a few moments of silence, pray]

Prayer:

Loving God,
Help us grow
To be all you know we can be.
Amen.

[The pinecone can now go in the box.]
