Serving Beyond Our Borders

By September 1, 2017Mission Trips

Chuck Graff2This summer, Reverend Chuck Graff and Reverend Phyllis Barren co-led our 12th Annual Adult Costa Rica Mission Trip, and they express their gratitude to our First Church congregation for your prayers and support for this amazing, annual opportunity to Serve. This year, we added a new medical team comprised of physicians, a heart surgeon, physical therapists, RNs, and other medical personnel. Rev. Barren led the Construction/Vacation Bible School Team, and Rev. Chuck Graff led the new Medical Team that worked part of the time at the Clinic that our church has helped us build over the past several years.

Costa Rica 7.17 IMG_2135In addition to the clinic, your help has also enabled us to complete work on the Agape sanctuary, Sunday school classrooms, and parsonage, and this year, our construction group had the opportunity to work at several other small churches in the same area. They helped build a new sanctuary in a remote, rural area; poured columns for new children’s Sunday school classrooms at another church; and helped build a retaining wall at another new church location. Our medical team helped with many different medical needs, from distributing more than 350 pairs of reading glasses, to delivering dental supplies, to providing medical tests and much-needed medications.

Our Costa Rica Teams also visited the Methodist Children’s Home again this year to spend time with the children and to take them needed items donated by you. Thank you so much for your prayers and generous donations of these items, along with the monetary gifts that provided our supplies and the items needed for our work!

Costa Rica 7.17-image12Christianity and Methodism are growing rapidly in Costa Rica and throughout Central America, thanks to the strong lay ministry leadership in many small, rural churches, as well as the openness of people to God’s grace and love. Our team is blessed far beyond our service and work by the love and joy that we receive from the wonderful people of Costa Rica.

Here is a list of the fantastic people who served on our team this year. Thanks to them all for their dedication and passion to “Go out to be God’s People in the World,” as they represent our Church through their loving service to God and others!

Please let us know if you would like to join us next summer!
