The theme for our September Good Book Club – on September 8 – is God Is. Our three book selections will focus on aspects of who God is, as revealed by some all-time classic storybook characters.
Kindergarten and Younger:
The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown, pictures by Clement Hurd
This is practically Psalm 139 in children’s book form. A little bunny tells him mother he is going to run away. The mother bunny assures him, that no matter where he goes or what he does, he can never outrun her love.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade:
Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel
The relationship between Frog and Toad is one of the most tender in children’s literature. Through them and their interactions, we see many aspects of God’s love.
4th Grade and Older
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
It’s hard to have a children’s book club at a church without bringing in this classic. Readers will explore the nature of God’s love, especially through the lion Aslan.
