Come join us any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday during the next two weeks as we meet to learn about and explore the ancient practice of “Christian Mindfulness.”
I began my exploration of mindfulness through my experiences as a cancer patient at St Jude Children’s Hospital 50 years ago.
As a 13-year-old, I began to discover the powerful difference between:
1) my fearful worries, reactions, and rigidness that could make me even sicker, and
2) my awakening to an embodied experience of trust, which led to inner peace, and knowing deep in my soul that I was part of something much bigger. . .something inclined toward healing and wholeness as I let go to a deeper power of compassion and meaning.
After 50 years, though in the many moments when I’m surprised by new challenges I still keep needing to remember and relearn the difference between reacting to my fears and responding to God’s loving guidance, I often realize that a deep “second breath” and prayerful pause can help me let go, open up, and discern the difference between responding to God’s loving invitation, and reacting to my own rigid desire to be in control and even deny reality.
I’m excited to announce that in just over 2 weeks, we will have a church-wide retreat on Sunday, May 2 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm with Amy Oden, author of “Right Here, Right Now: The Practice of Christian Mindfulness.”
Mark it on your calendar, and your invite friends! Connection with our church is not required, and all are welcome!
Grace and peace to all,
Dr. Len Deloney
Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation
