This week as we consecrate our spectacular new Anne S. and Henry B. Paup Sanctuary Pipe Organ, we are delighted to welcome Dan Garland, organ builder, to present the homily for this historic occasion in our church. If you have been fortunate enough to have heard Dan speak in presentations to various groups during the installation process, you’ll know why I invited Dan to speak as part of this very special worship service in the life of our church. Dan speaks out of a personal passion and deep understanding of the theology of our hymns. He will share with us out of his understanding of the role music — especially the music of a pipe organ — and how it enhances and deepens our experience of worship. This is more than an academic exercise for Dan — it is fundamental to his work and to his life. I hope you will join us for this important historic worship service and be among the first to welcome our new pipe organ to its special place in our hearts and in our sanctuary.
