Music and Memories on Sunday Morning

By January 13, 2017Music & Worship Arts

In response to the many questions received since last Sunday about the lovely harpsichord played in both Sanctuary services, the instrument was a gift to our church from Beverly and Dr. Lamar Smith. “It was a prized possession of our church member Louise Canafax,” Lamar says. “Louise herself was an accomplished cellist and owned several beautiful musical instruments.” The Smiths bought the harpsichord from Mrs. Canafax’s estate. As everyone present watched our organist, Peggy Graff, play this instrument with the skill and finesse we are accustomed to seeing in her playing the organ and piano, it did not go unnoticed that this very different instrument added a new layer of color and sound to our Sunday morning worship music. Our church family is so fortunate to have this thoughtful gift from the Smiths, and we look forward to hearing it again soon!
