This past Monday evening in our Chapel, a generous number of people were witness to an OUTSTANDING chamber music concert presented by our friends of The Spectrum Chamber Music Society. Nine members presented music of Brahms, Ravel, Handel, and Halvorsen. It was an hour of truly magnificent quality. The strings brought the music to life as the instrumentalists played with such precision and passion. This concert series will continue throughout the year with two more dates scheduled in our Chapel. Mark your 2017 calendars for a February 13 (wonderful Valentine’s date!) and May 1 engagement with these incredible professional musicians. You will be glad you attended.
As for the immediate future, you will ABSOLUTELY want to be in attendance this coming Sunday in either the 9:30 or 11:00 am service in the Sanctuary. Our second performance of the Singing Women of First Church will take place in both services. These fantastic ladies come together for two Wednesday night rehearsals and prepare two choral pieces along with other service music. You will not want to miss this talented group of lady singers. Their voices and passion toward singing allow us as listeners an opportunity to experience music that fills our hearts and minds with love and joy. They will be presenting a beautiful selection, “Make Me an Instrument” by Courtney, as well as a stirring up-tempo arrangement of “Come Thou Fount” by Musselman. This selection is supported by a four-hand piano accompaniment played of course by our wonderful Peggy Graff and Hans Grim. Each piece offers an emotional setting that will allow you to experience worship in its most complete form.
I encourage you to be a part of our service this weekend. The theme for this second Sunday of the Healthy Plate Discipleship series is “Pray.” These two pieces will enhance the message being brought to us by Dr. Bruster, as well as lift our thoughts and prayers to those in need. Come join us!
See you at church!
