I work in the Foundation Building here on our church campus. It sits across the street from the main building. This morning I needed to walk over that way to the church office. As I was walking down the corridor past Wesley Hall little singing voices called to me. 90 preschoolers were standing on risers rehearsing for their spring program. Watching their bouncing heads and swaying — perhaps wiggling — bodies was enough to up the feel-good endorphins on this first day of May. Some were more enthusiastic than others with their hand motions making “deep and wide” really deep and wide, and I noticed one little girl who excelled in wide mouth and wide-eyed singing. She stood near a dark-haired pigtailed one with heart patches on the knees of her purple pants.
They sang a song about a tiny tree with a tiny bird on a tiny nest with a tiny egg. In that tiny egg was a tiny bird and in that tiny bird was LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE IS ALL AROUND! On this point the children were resoundingly confident.
I was still smiling about all that when I exited the east doors to walk back to my office. As I walked up that ramp on the east side, to my right were several senior citizens escorted by loving aides as they left Leonard Memorial Chapel after our Wednesday Dementia Friendly Chapel Service. As they slowly mounted the steps to the small bus waiting to take them back to their homes, cheerful Dementia Friendly staff members waved them goodbye and called out, “I’m glad you came.”
Love all around — I’m grateful for the reminder.
