In the wake of all that is going on around us, in our world and even in our denomination, it seems especially important to use this Lenten season as a time to deeply reflect and consider who we are as a faith community.
Our Lenten Theme, This Is Us offers the opportunity for such deep reflection of what we value as a church, including diversity of worship experiences, community, growth in discipleship, compassion and generosity, and sharing God’s love with others.
Yes, these values do define Us, who our church is as a collective whole. It also describes the Christian Church down through the ages — It’s “This is Us” in relation to Christ, because all of these values are among those embraced by followers of Christ since the ministry of Jesus began.
This will be a Lenten Season for remembering who we really are, celebrating our community, and centering on our values as God’s people in the world. Yes, we are a diverse worshipping community — and we do celebrate that. But This Is Us isn’t just about Traditional Sanctuary Worship. It’s not about The Gathering. It’s not about eleven:eleven. It’s not about Disciple Church. It’s about all of those styles of worship and so much more. This is Us is about who we are together — and whose we are together, the sum of many wonderful parts. Please join us every Sunday in Lent to learn, to celebrate and reflect on all it means when we say, This Is Us.
