In Memoriam: Former House Speaker Jim Wright
FUMCFW member and Former House Speaker Jim Wright, the longtime Texas Democrat who served more than three decades in the U.S. House of Representatives, died Wednesday morning at the age of 92. Funeral services for Speaker Wright will be held at FUMCFW on Monday, May 11 at 2:00 pm; Dr. Tim Bruster will officiate, and a reception will follow in Wesley Hall.
Due to the large number of dignitaries expected to attend Speaker Wright’s funeral, all church parking lots will be unavailable for funeral parking. First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth has arranged for parking at the east lot of Farrington Field, located on Lancaster Avenue just behind the stadium at Lancaster and University. Shuttle busses will begin running at 12:30 and will run continuously until 4:30 to provide guests with complimentary pick up and drop off at the church. Please be sure to allow plenty of time; there will be several shuttles with limited capacity and large crowds expected.
The FUMC Preschool will be closed on Monday. Click here for more information.
We encourage church members and friends wishing to attend the service to watch our church website and emails for special instructions and helpful information. The service will also be available via live stream. Click here for more information on the life and contributions of Former House Speaker Jim Wright.
