Introducing Fit First, Our New Fitness Ministry!

“I have some exciting news to share! It is about a vision — a vision to reach out to our community in a unique way sharing God’s love where there is a need.”

Jennifer_Stephens_3Hi! I am Jennifer Stephens, a member here at First Church. I have been attending FUMCFW since 2013, with a temporary move to care for some needs, and I recently returned in June of 2015. I have worked in the Health and Fitness Industry since 1997 with a degree in Exercise Sport Science from North Carolina Central University. And I am now starting my first semester at Brite Seminary with hopes to become ordained in the United Methodist Church. This vision I have is to take the two things I love and value the most and combine them — to use my knowledge of exercise and my love for God to reach out to those who do not know Jesus. I believe there is a great need in Fort Worth for a Fitness Ministry, an outreach to the community that shows Jesus’ love and compassion in a unique way while offering a service that is so desperately needed. Boot camps, fitness centers, and personal trainers can be highly expensive. I believe that people need to be educated, and have the opportunity to have a qualified trainer to teach them and motivate them, so that no matter their income status they can have a better quality of life.

Let me introduce you to Fit First, the new First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth Fitness Ministry! The purpose of Fit First is to get the community physically and spiritually fit through various exercise groups. Fit First will include a running group that will meet every Saturday morning with goals to participate in 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon races locally (Cowtown in February 2017 and Fort Worth Marathon in November 2017 are already on our calendar). There will be different pace groups, so don’t worry if you are a walker, run very slowly, or are the next elite runner — there will be a place for you. The running group is set to meet on Saturday mornings at 6:45 am beginning in mid-July. Fit First will also include a free community boot camp that will meet twice a week at 5:30 am and 7:00 pm in the park (exact location to come) starting in September. Every exercise and activity can be modified to accommodate all fitness levels. Both groups will do more than just exercise. They will develop small groups to stay afterward and have a cup of coffee or a bite to eat to develop relationships.

My hope for Fit First is to find common ground with the community through fitness and open up a place to have conversations about God, about Jesus, and about Grace.

I hope you will join me in spreading the news about this new, exciting ministry to begin in a park near you! For more information, contact Jennifer Stephens ( at 817/363-3291 or Rev. Chuck Graff ( at 817/339-5065.
