Imagine you are homeless . . . walking all day . . . hot & sweaty. You sleep in a shelter, under a bridge, or in a tent. Your most important possessions like wallet, watch, glasses, dentures, and critical documents are under your bed roll — other items are kept close to you or even in your shoes, and you pray they will be there the next day.
Now imagine you are given the opportunity to sleep at a church with a real mattress, clean sheets, a real pillow, a chance to shower and clean-up. You’re given a hot dinner and time for fellowship, reading or just resting with peace of mind knowing that your belongings will be there in the morning. What a wonderful dream?
You, the Congregation of FUMCFW are making this dream a reality through the First Street Methodist Mission’s ministry called Room in the Inn. FUMCFW and FSMM will host 16 single men at the Justin building every Thursday evening beginning Thursday, July 4 and continuing through the end of August. Our guests enjoy a home-cooked meal and fellowship and then guests and four volunteer “innkeepers” sleep on individual mattresses in the Justin building on the gym floor. On Friday morning everyone enjoys a hot breakfast and leaves with a sack lunch for later in the day.
Volunteer opportunities abound, and we would love to have you join our team of folks. The next volunteer training will be Sunday, June 9, at 12:15 in the Justin Building. If you have any questions about Room in the Inn, the training or to RSVP for the training, please contact Linda Murphy, FSMM Director at 817-335-6080 ext. 101, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Room in the Inn is a truly transformative experience, not only for our guests but for our volunteers as well. We would love you to join us!
