The next First 7th monthly preview service is this Sunday!
March 9 | 5 :00 to 6:00 pm | Botanical Research Institute of Texas
When we gather, we’ll be in the first Sunday in the season of Lent, one of the most important times of the year for Christians and the church. At it’s core, Lent to me isn’t about sacrifice. It’s about focus.
In church history, Lent has traditionally been a time of preparation for new believers. A time to reflect, to gaze deeply upon your own soul and realize how deeply you need Jesus. Culminating with baptism, Lent is a time to focus our lives on God. There’s a lesson here for all of us, not just for new Christians.
For most of the world, these are some of the coldest, darkest weeks of the year. A time when produce is withered and the pantry is running empty. We need sustenance, something to fill us up, something to provide the energy to fuel us forward. If Easter is the celebration feast, Lent is the time we sit with rumbling stomachs, eagerly awaiting the time when the table is full again.
If you’re me, you’re hungry. Hungry for something real, something filling. Every day, our modern lives feed us junk food for the soul, empty calories that satisfy for a short time before leaving us sick and unhealthy. Lent is the time where we look at those empty plates and say “enough.” There is real spiritual sustenance available, and I’m ready to feast.
This Sunday, we start preparing for the feast. I’ll see you soon!
