“Discernment is faithful living and listening to God’s love and direction so that we can fulfill our individual calling and shared mission.”
— Henri Nouwen
Well, our meeting last Saturday that was related to Strategic Planning was truly amazing.
Not because we got so much done, but because we were so intentional about discerning how we are being called to move forward.
Susan Beaumont is a very gifted consultant who helped us begin to experience and understand the ways of discernment. She understands and helped us to see that, in order for good strategic planning to happen, we need to be very intentional about tending the soul of our church.
Our church has a long and wonderful history, and the sacred stories from our ancestors and elders must be heard and honored. Those roots will feed our souls and the soul of the church if we take the time to pay attention. And that will give us fresh, Spirit-led renewal and new creative energy to move forward with a humble boldness.
But last Saturday was just an important step in our church’s faith journey.
Tonight (Thursday, February 16) we will have a Church Council Meeting to discern further God’s unique call to us. And this Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary, we will have an opportunity to learn more about the new Master Plan that is emerging.
Thank you for your continuing prayers as we move further into this “way of soul tending” so we can discern deeply who we are and how we are to be God’s people in the world.
For we must prayerfully pause regularly to look and listen deeply. We must be intentional about that individually and as a community if our hearts are to be opened and we are to have eyes that truly see and ears that truly hear (Isaiah 6:10, Jeremiah 5:21, Ezekiel 12:2, Matthew 13:15, Acts 28:27, Romans 11:8).
Grace and peace on this sacred journey,
