In Children First we kicked off our theme for October: That Makes Me Uncomfortable.
I know a lot of you like to follow up at home with your kids. (And that is fantastic!)
Below is this month’s Memory Verse, Bible Story description, and some Holy Conversation starters.
Have a wonderful weekend. (And don’t forget — our October Attendance Challenge starts this Sunday.)
Memory Verse: Jeremiah 29:11
Surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord,
plans for your welfare and not for harm,
to give you a future with hope.
Bible Story: Balaam’s Donkey (Numbers 22:22-35)
I always love telling kids that there was a story about a talking donkey long before Shrek. Salaam is . . . let’s just say he’s not very nice to his donkey. And eventually the donkey speaks out and defends himself. I think it is so important for our children (and all of us) to be able to say when a situation makes us uncomfortable. Children need to know that they do have the right to speak up for themselves if they feel that not doing so could be harmful.
Have you ever been with a group of people who wanted to do something you knew was wrong?
Has anyone ever tried to get you to do something that you felt wasn’t right?
Who are the helpers (trusted adults) you can turn to when another person or situation makes you uncomfortable?
