Helpful Information for Your 2021 Stewardship Commitment

Our 2021 Annual Stewardship Campaign is underway. You recently received a letter from Dr. Bruster and me which included a commitment card.  You can also click here if prefer to make your commitment online.

As a reminder, the annual stewardship campaign is targeted specifically for raising ministry funds. These funds are vital for carrying out our day-to-day ministries such as providing Congregational Care Ministers and DVDs for our homebound members; making sure that the lights come on year-round for Bible studies, 6th grade confirmation classes, and worship services; buying the music that our Choral Union Choir performs;  connecting with our members and potential new members through our online digital presence 24/7; and providing countless opportunities for First Church members to practice Healthy Plate Discipleship to develop and enhance their Christian life.

As you begin thinking about how you will respond, I hope you find the following information helpful.

What happens after I turn in my commitment card?

You should receive a note of thanks and acknowledgment that we have received your commitment card. Your information is entered into our First Church database and we will update your giving record as your gifts are received.

How long is my commitment?

This commitment is for one year running from January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021.

May I give more than I originally committed?

You most certainly can! Any additional gifts over and above your original commitment will be gratefully received and will be used in meeting our general operating needs unless you tell us otherwise.

Do the special seasonal offerings during Advent and Lent (second-mile offerings) and other designated gifts count toward my annual commitment?

Second-mile offerings and donations that are designated for specific program or ministry (i.e. Thanksgiving Baskets, Next90, Choral Union, Media, Children’s ministries), are very much appreciated and important, but they do not count toward your annual commitment.

What if I experience a job loss or health crisis that makes it challenging to fulfill my 2021 commitment?

We know that “life happens.” If you are faced with a financial setback, please consider discussing your circumstances (share as much as you are comfortable sharing) with Steve Fagan, Director of Finance (sfagan@myfumc.org | 817-339-5085), or Nancy Fisher, Director of Stewardship (nfisher@myfumc.org | 817-339-5098). Not only will this give us an opportunity to pray for better days for you; it also makes us aware that you may not be able to give at the level you had planned to give. We will not ask any more from you and will hold you up in prayer.

The Business Office has my credit card information on file for scheduled payments to fulfill my 2020 commitment. Do I still need to complete the 2021 Commitment Card if my credit card information remains the same?

Yes. We never take for granted that your commitment is ongoing. For budgeting purposes and to confirm your continued commitment, we ask that you please complete a new card each year. We also ask that you provide your credit card (or bank account information if we are drafting on your account) again each year when you turn in your card.

I live on a fixed income which means my gift is smaller than the average gift. Will my gift really matter? There is no such thing as a small gift. Your gift certainly matters because it is from you and because it used to Love God, Serve People, and Transform Lives. We recognize that the choice to support our church ministries is a very personal choice and very personal covenant. I simply point you to the well-known story of “the widow’s mite” found in Mark 12: 41-44, and then I thank you for your faithful generosity!
