Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 98

O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. The Lord has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord. Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Food for Thought:

Gena_new1In this psalm, the psalmist talks about how God’s steadfast love endures forever. We live in a world where the concept of love is such a flippant idea. We make statements like, I Love ice cream, I love your hair, and I love that dress. But God’s love is so much different than that. God’s love is unconditional. It is not based upon what we look like, what we wear, even how we behave, it’s given to us without price. It is pure sacrificial and self-giving love. I think the world could use a lot more of that kind of love. Today, think of someone who might feel unloved and go reach out to them and extend Christ’s love to them.

Loving God, you pour out your abounding love on us. You created us in your image and breathed the breath of life into us. You love us more than we could ever imagine. Your love is never ending and there is nothing that we can do to separate us from your love and grace. We come before you this day thankful for this love and we ask that you guide us to extend this love to others. In your holy and precious name we pray, Amen.
