For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly, while we wait for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.
Food For Thought:
The line that stands out to me is that you are called to live lives that are “self-controlled, upright, and godly.” How are you living a life full of self-control, uprightness, and Godliness? How would you define each of these words? What would you add to the list of attributes of what it means to be a faithful Christian? (Patience, peace, justice, forgiveness, etc…)
Through every minute of this day, be with me, Lord!
Through every day of all this week, be with me, Lord!
Through every week of all this year, be with me, Lord!
So shall the days and weeks and years be threaded on a golden cord.
And all draw on with sweet accord into thy fullness, Lord, that so,
When time is past,
By grace I may, at last,
Be with thee, Lord. Amen.
