Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 113:1-6

Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord; praise the name of the Lord.

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time on and forevermore.

From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the Lord is to be praised.

The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.

Food For Thought:

The line that stands out to me in this passage of Scripture is: “Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time on and forevermore.” Think about the word blessing and its cognates blessed and blessedness. How would you define this word? The hashtag “#blessed” has become a part of everyday parlance these days. Do you think we acknowledge our blessings properly? Do you think we give thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives? How can we be blessings to others?

God of all the living, enable us to surrender ourselves to you in silence and in love. Surrendering ourselves to you does not come easily to our human condition. But you intervene in the deepest recesses of our being and your will for us is the radiance of a hope. In your precious name we pray, Amen.
