Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
   He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
   he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths
   for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
   I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
   your rod and your staff—
   they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
   in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
   my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
   all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
   my whole life long.

Food For Thought:

This is one of my favorite Psalms partly because it is usually read at every funeral I attend, but partly because it reminds us as Christians throughout our lives that God is with us. Even in the darkest times of our lives, God is there. Sometimes we question God’s presence and this is the Psalm that I turn to, to remind me that we are never alone. God is with us, thanks be to God. Amen.

Creator God, you created us in your image. You breathed the breath of life into us. You know the number of the hairs on our head. You love us beyond anything that we can fathom. Remind us this day that you are always present. You are there when we need you. You are there when we think that we do not. Watch over us and help us to be your faithful disciples all of our days. In your holy and precious name we pray, Amen.
