Today’s Scripture:
Psalm 123
To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until he has mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.
Food For Thought:
In this passage, the people are begging for mercy from God. How have you understood God to be a God of mercy? How are mercy and grace tied together?
Prayer:
God of salvation, who sent your Son to seek out and save what is lost, hear our prayers on behalf of those who are lost in our day. Visit your people and pour out your strength and courage upon us, that we may hurry to make you welcome not only in our concern for others, but by serving them generously and faithfully in your name. Amen.
