O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. The Lord has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.
Food For Thought:
When I read this passage of Scripture the words that stand out for me are that God has “remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel.” This is a beautiful testimony to God’s love and faithfulness not only to Israel, but to all of humankind. Love and faithfulness are so intertwined. Unfortunately, we humans all too often lose sight of the faithfulness part. What it means to love one another is to be faithful to one another; to show up for one another; to be there for one another; to be devoted solely to one another. This also applies to our relationship with God. We cannot neglect God and only be faithful to God when it’s convenient. What do you see as the most important aspects of faithfulness? How can you be faithful to God? To your neighbor?
Ever-faithful God, by divine wisdom you gather us out of the darkness and bring us into the light of Christ. Enable us to recall your many acts of mercy, the miracles by which you delivered us, and the signs of your unwavering love for humankind, which proclaim the gospel of resurrection and life. In your holy and sacred name we pray, Amen.
