O fear the Lord, you his holy ones, for those who fear him have no want.
The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Which of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good?
Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Food For Thought:
In this Psalm, the Psalmist talks about fear of the Lord. In another Psalm, it is said that fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. Do you fear the Lord? What do you think it means to have fear of the Lord? I think about this in relation to my parents. I feared my parents—not in being scared of what they were going to do to me but a fear based out of respect for them. How do you respect God? How does your treatment of others show your respect for God?
Through suffering and rejection, O God, you bring forth our salvation, for in Jesus you embrace our humanity and transform our lives by the glory of his cross. Grant that for the sake of the gospel we may rebuke the lure of this world, take up our cross, and follow your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
