Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 95:1-7a

O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed.

O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. O that today you would listen to his voice!

Food for Thought:

One of my favorite things to do is be outside.  As a child, I would spend as many waking moments as I could outside,  playing hide and seek with the neighborhood kids,  sipping lemonade on my neighbor’s porch as I visited with them, sipping sweet nectar from the honeysuckle bush, shooting hoops with my big brother. Outdoors was the place that I most communed with God. This is still the case.  Unfortunately, as I have become an adult, I spend less and less time in the great outdoors.  Instead, I spend time cooped up in an office by a computer.   There are days when I want to play hooky from work and sit on a park bench and read a book.  I never do it because I’m afraid of getting caught.   I know this sounds very lame.   I’ve always been a rule follower.   Today, I want you to find a piece of this OUTSIDE joy and enjoy it.   Go to the park and slide down the kiddie slides.   Go buy an ice cream from a truck and let it melt on the hot payment.   Go to the local duck pond and feed the ducks.   Go to the local pool and slip your feet into the crisp, cool water.  Invite a friend over for lemonade on your porch.

Creator God, we come to you today deeply grateful for your creation.  As we look around us we are amazed at the greatness and majesty of all that you have made.  Nature around us speaks of your greatness .  The vast expanse of the sky, the mountains, trees, lakes and streams speak of your great design.  You have given us such beauty in the colors of the rainbow,  the beauty of flowers and fields. Words cannot adequately express the magnificence of all that you have created.  In your sacred name we pray, Amen.
